Carlson March 12, 1917 - January 15, 2005 Floyd C. Carlson, 87, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2005 in Stockton. Floyd was born March, 12, 1917 in Johnstown, Colo. to John and Ida Carlson. He was number 9 of 9 siblings. His father called him Chum and allowed him to accompany him everywhere he went. He was the last surviving sibling of the family. He attended elementary school and high school in Johnstown. He entered the music department with a clarinet and did solo voice work in many places. In 1927 he entered the CCC for a year, then was called home to help with the farm work. His father was a farmer and a lay preacher in holiness groups for many years. Floyd remembered regular attendance in Sunday School and Wednesday evening services with his parents. He married Evelyn in 1939 and divorced after 37 years of marriage. There was a stepson, Morris, who personally petitioned the court to change his name to Carlson. Floyd went to the WPA and went to machinist school. Floyd was a machinist of caliber. He also became a painter and jack-of-all-trades, from which the neighbors benefited. He drove Greyhound buses for over 30 years. He spent four years with the Coast Guard from 1942-46 in the San Francisco area, but because of a heart condition was not allowed to go to sea. His family was with him that time in the Oakland area. He had residences in Colorado, Oakland, Grass Valley, Lathrop, Los Osos and Stockton. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He will be remembered as a jovial, good neighbor and a generous friend. Visitation: Wednesday, January 19, 2005, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Rocha's Mortuary, 215 S. School St., Lodi.
