She was married to Gaither Oris Prince for sixty-three years before his death in 1998. Sylvia was the proud mother of three children, Fayetta Beckman of Richmond, CA, Bob Prince of San Jose, CA, and Sheryl Gargiulo of Stockton, CA. She also had six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Sylvia is also survived by a sister, Wromyan Greer, of Paragould, Arkansas and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Long and Loretta Ward of Stockton, CA. Before moving to Stockton, CA, in 1982, Sylvia and family had lived in East Palo Alto, and South San Francisco, CA. Throughout the moves and in all the houses, Sylvia took great pride in her home. She also was a wonderful cook. She believed in having plenty of food and always made sure that everyone had at least one favorite on the table. Sylvia lived for her children and grand- children. She would never hesitate to help. Whether it was watching the children, painting and cleaning, or staying with anyone who was sick, she was there. In 2002 due to dementia, Sylvia had to leave her beloved home and move in with her daughter, Fayetta. The following year Sylvia moved to Greenridge Senior Care facility. Her family was still close by and checked on her often. Sylvia remained there until her death. Chapel Service will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton, CA 95212.
