Lionel Taylor Reed March 30, 1931 — May 12, 2004 Lionel Taylor Reed, 73, operator of Reed & Son Tow Service in Tracy for nearly four decades, died May 12 in Ogden, Utah, following a long illness. Born in Stockton, he was the son of Lionel Taylor and Katherine Reed of Tracy and the grandson of Jane Taylor, who operated Taylor’s Café on 11th Street for many years. Mr. Reed, who went by his middle name, Taylor, attended Tracy schools and graduated from Tracy High School in 1949. In 1951, he purchased the towing business from his mother. Reed & Son was the AAA towing service for the Tracy area for many years and also operated an auto-dismantling business on 11th Street east of the MacArthur Drive overpass. In the early 1990s, Mr. Reed sold the business and retired. He moved to Grass Valley and Lucerne Valley before going to Ogden last October. Before his death, he was under hospice care. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Reed-Doan and Daniel Doan of Langlois, Ore. Mr. Reed’s wife, Christine Reed, who had worked in the business with him, died in 1988. Mr. Reed served in the California National Guard in 1950 and 1951 as an airplane mechanic. He was a member of the Tracy Elks Lodge and the Episcopal Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting. A memorial service will be scheduled in Tracy within the next month. Mr. Reed’s daughter prefers memorial contributions in Mr. Reed’s name to the American Cancer Society or to a local hospice organization. She may be contacted by writing to Cheryl Doan, P.O.
