He was born in Santa Barbara, CA on July 29, 1938. As a child, he moved with his family to Stockton, CA. He graduated from Stockton High School. Drafted into the U.S. Army from 1961-1967, he was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, CA. He retired from Unilever Cannery in 2004 after 40 years of devoted service as a warehouse supervisor. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #601. He will always be remembered for his loving smile, big heart, guidance and understanding. Preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Josephine Atilano; his brother, Paul Atilano and sister, Juana Dawal. Survived by his wife, Denise Atilano and sons, Michael Guardado and wife, Tammy, Marc Guardado and fiance, Yvette Uvalles and Martin Atilano Jr. and fiance, Sabrina Trejo, all of Stockton. Also a loving grandfather to Michael Jr., Meagan and Maci Guardado, Marc Jr. and Mikayla Guardado, Marcos Marquez and Martin Atilano IIII. Surviving brothers: Hilario Atilano and wife, Frances and Joseph Atilano of Stockton and sister-in- law, Phyllis Atilano of Modesto. Also survived by best fiiend of 50 years, Stanley Garcia and wife, Hilary; in-laws Margaret and husband, Artie Smith of Shafter, Rita and husband, Joe Ortega, Joe and wife, Karen Guardado and Maria Barrera, all of Bakersfield and Anthony Guardado of Shafter. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Martin will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will never be forgotten. Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at the DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church, 1663 E. Main St., Stockton. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at DeYoung's. Committal: San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
