Van Vranken October 6, 1922 - January 25, 2005 Ethelyn H. Van Vranken, 82, was born October 6, 1922 in Fort Arthur, Texas to Ida and Henry Huntley Epperson and passed away January 25, 2005 in Stockton, CA. Mother of four children, she lived in Stockton for over 50 years. A graduate of Louisiana State University, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was a member of the drum and bugle corps at her high school in Port Arthur, remaining close to her family in Louisiana as well. A homemaker par excellence, she had a variety of interests and avid hobbies. She was a Camp Fire Leader, seamstress, antique collector and refinisher, explorer of the Mother Lode, teacher of English to second language learners, gardener, crafter, hostess for exchange students. She enjoyed camping in California's beaches and mountains as well as National Parks. She took numerous trips to Louisiana, exploring that regions historical attractions. She enjoyed her affiliation with American Association of University Women, particularly the gourmet group. During her later years, she volunteered at the Friends of the Stockton Public Library Bookstore. She derived great fulfillment in finding used books for patrons. She was the supportive and encouraging mother of Carol McGurk (Tom) of Stockton; Leah Van Vranken (Rick Marvin) of Salinas; Mary Van Vranken of Stockton and Mark Van Vranken (Joan) of Stockton. She took great care and interest in all her grandchildren, Tenley and Lesley McGurk, Natalie Resendez, Taylor and Grace Marvin and Tara Van Vranken; loving sister of sister Carol Dumas and Maxine Lipscomb, both of LA. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at the DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA, Saturday, January 29, 2005, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Committal: Azalea Rest Cemetery, Zachary, LA. She will be buried in Zachary, Louisiana.
