He was the son of Pearl and Ben Vogel who immigrated fro Eastern Europe at the age of 18. Jack attended local elementary schools and graduated from Stockton High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the V-12 Program at University of Redlands. He served as a Marine in China from 1944 - 1945. After the war, he graduated from the College of the Pacific's Business School. He returned to the Marines during the Korean War and remained in the Marine Reserve until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1983. He served as commanding officer of the 4th Supply Company of the Marine Reserve Unit at Rough and Ready Island. He worked with his father in Ben Vogel and Son, their potato and onion distribution business. From the 1960's until the present, he was the owner of Pre-peeled Potato Company, where they still make the best fresh hash browns in the world. He was a member of the National Potato Council. He was an avid UOP booster. He was a charter member of West Lane Tennis Club, where he played for many years. He also served on the board of Casa Bonita Mausoleum and was a member of the Navy League and the Stockton Tennis club. One of his great pleasures was supporting local musical programs. He was also an antique car enthusiast. He was married to his wife, Eleanor for 58 years. He was the loving father of Margaret Mallett and John Vogel, and the late Ben Vogel. He was the proud grandfather of Ramona and Ben Vogel, and Andrew, Douglas and Jane Mallett. Jack is also survived by numerous cousins. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, February 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Morris Chapel, University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA. There will be no visitation. Private committal.
