Clayton Fried 
Clayton Fried, 70, of Boise, Idaho and formerly of Lodi, died Jan. 30 at his 
residence. He was born Aug. 26, 1934.

Mr. Fried was raised on the family farm outside of Hazelton, N.D. He served in 
the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Birco during the Korean War. Following his 
discharge, he worked as a logger in Northern California, and then worked for 
Cal-Gas (Ameri Gas) in Lodi for 34 years until his retirement. He enjoyed 
fishing and boating. He also enjoyed playing cards, and would often spend 
several months in his motor home fishing and playing cards. He was an avid 
basketball player, and often played with doctors half his age. Later, he 
enjoyed watching his grandchildren from both California and Idaho play the 
game. 

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Boise, Idaho; sons, Rick Fried, of 
Middleton, Idaho, John Fried, of Lodi; daughter, Christie Mendez, of Lodi; step-
sons, Randy Moedl, of Rigby, Idaho, and Jason Moedl, of Boise, Idaho; step-
daughters, Michelle Moedl and Sherri Renfro, both of Boise, Idaho; sisters, 
Rebecca Williams and Jeanette Horner, both of Bismarck, N.D., and Janice 
Stroble, of Sacramento; brother, John Fried, of Sacramento; 11 grandchildren 
and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbert and Roy Fried; and sister, 
Viola Heinle.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, 
Idaho. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grant Central Cemetery in 
Idaho Falls. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the 
funeral home.

Cloverdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
