Violet Dee Brown 
June 8, 1911 - January 31, 2005



Violet Dee Brown, of Stockton, a retired business woman, age 93 years, passed 
away on Monday, January 31, 2005, in Lodi. Mrs. Brown was born in 1911 in 
Vinita, Oklahoma. She came to Stockton in 1934 and lived here until the last 
few months. She and her late husband, Harry M. Brown, were co-owners with Joyce 
and Oliver Mahin in Brown & Mahin Department Stores. They had 5 stores at one 
time. Mrs. Brown was in the retail business for thirty six years, as a sales 
person, office manager, buyer and store manager. She was manager of the Manteca 
store when she retired in 1967. In 1970 she joined the Elkhorn Country Club and 
became an avid golfer. She resigned from the club in 1998 due to health. She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Brown; 5 brothers, Charles 
Isbell, Harold Isbell, Clifford Isbell, Milton Isbell, Robert Isbell and 2 
sisters, Margaret Moore and Virginia Hindman. 
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Martin of Acampo, CA; stepson, Harry Brown of 
Denver, CO; stepdaughter, Barbara Knop of Santa Rosa, CA; brother, William 
Isbell Sr. of Stockton, CA, brother, Edward Isbell of Angels Camp, CA. She is 
also survived by nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, many nieces 
and nephews, and many treasured friends.
At her request, no services will be held, and inurnment will be in Cherokee 
Memorial Park in Lodi.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her memory to St. Mary's 
Interfaith Dining Room, P.O. Box 133, Stockton, CA 95203, or to the American 
Heart Association, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, Suite 5-D, Stockton, CA 95207.

Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
