John E. King 
Jan. 30, 1920 - Sept. 9, 2004



John Elias King of Stockton, CA died at home on Thursday, September 2004. He 
was 84. 
John was born in Arkansaw, WI on January 30, 1920 to George and Johanna King, 
the third of three children. John grew up in Wisconsin during the Depression 
years and married Aletha N. Smedsrud of Dallas, WI. During World War II, John 
was a pilot, flying 65 B-26 missions in Europe. He retired from the Air Force 
in 1980 with the rank of Captain. After World War II, John and Aletha moved to 
Stockton, CA where he owned and operated King's Market and later went into real 
estate. John and Aletha raised two sons, John and Peter, and a grandson, John 
Jr. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and friends, and played handball for 
many years at the YMCA. He is missed by family and friends. John was preceded 
in death by his wife of 64 years, Aletha N. King.He is survived by their two 
sons, John B. King, Sr. of Ashland, VA, and Peter R. King of Stockton, CA; by 
their four grandchildren, John B. King, Jr. of Corvallis, OR, Michael A. King 
of Reno, NV, Peter Eric King of Burke, VA, and Aletha N. King of Ashland, VA.
A Memorial service for Mr. King will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 
19, at the Stockton Free Methodist Church, 4799 Foppiano Lane, Stockton, CA.
