He was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Manteca. Mr. Okuhara was raised on the family farm in Acampo. He attended Houston Elementary School, and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1936. He was placed in the relocation camp in Gila River, Ariz. during World War II. In the later part of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army engineer corp., until his honorable discharge. He married Mitsuko Yoshiwara in 1952, and they made their home in Acampo, where he farmed. Later, he owned and operated Cactus Nursery until his retirement in Dec. 2003. He is survived by his wife, Mitsuko Okuhara, of Acampo; daughters, Mary Lyn Yip, of Seal Beach, Susan Siefried, of Lodi, Carol Okuhara and Mimi Okuhara, both of Sherman Oaks; sisters, Bessie Okuhara, of Lodi, and Hiroko Takata, of Japan; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lodi Buddhist Church, 23 N. Stockton St., Lodi, with the Rev. Kenshin Fujimoto officiating. Inurnment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. A Family Memorial Registry may be signed today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, Lodi. The funeral planning committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Annex at Lodi Buddhist Church. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
