Payne, age 100 of Stockton passed away on February 16, 2005, two days after her 100th birthday celebration at Wagner Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Convalescent hospital. She was born with her twin sister, Bertha on February 14, 1905 in LaGrange, CA. Her parents were Elizabeth and Livingston Lucas and they moved to Stockton in 1906. On February 28, 1921, she married Barton Payne, owner of the Palace Barber Shop located at San Joaquin and Taylor Streets. They had one son, Robert Payne who was born September 10, 1923. Barton Payne was a member of the Karl Ross Post Drum and Bugle Corps. Mildred was a member of the Karl Ross Auxilliary. She was their president in the year 1969-1970. Mildred was a seamstress at the San Joaquin Hospital until 1965. She is survived by her son Robert Payne of Stockton, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 from 1-5:00 pm and Wednesday 9-2:00 pm at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary, 809 N. California St. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the Mortuary Chapel. Committal at Stockton Rural Cemetery.
