Kathie was born August 19, 1943 to Arthur Vivian, and Dorothy Bernice Johnson in Sioux City, Iowa. Growing up she lived in Ogden, Utah; Spokane, Washington; and Santa Clara, California. She had two brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Buchser High School in Santa Clara, where she was proud to have been a cheerleader and later in life received her AA degree from San Joaquin Delta College at age 43. She married her high school sweetheart Jim Cook on December 21, 1963. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary just over a year ago. After working at Ampex Corporation in Redwood City California as a credit and payroll secretary, she became a full time homemaker when her first child was born. After all five of her children were in school, she went to work part time in the family business, Calva Products Incorporated. There she was responsible for personnel and payroll until she retired. Kathie's true calling in life was that of being a devoted wife and mother. She was a loving supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her selfless service to her physically and mentally disabled son Jared. She will be further remembered for her faithfulness, her generosity, and her unyielding kindness to the lowly in spirit. Family was her life, and she took great joy in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She could never have enough phone calls and visiting from her family. Kathie enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband Jim and her family. She especially loved going on exotic vacations to far away places when she could take her children and grandchildren with her. he leaves behind a legacy of love and will be missed dearly. Next to her family, Kathie loved her Church. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently in many church callings throughout her years. Among other callings, she served as a Relief Society President, a Young Women's counselor, and teacher and counselor in the Primary organization. She was also a diligent student of the Gospel of Christ and attended many years of Institute of Religion classes, where she furthered her knowledge of the gospel and put that knowledge into practice as a disciple of Christ. Kathie was also active in her community. She served as a board member for the Association for Retarded Children. She served as a 4-H leader for the local Live Oak chapter. She also served in many leadership roles for the Boy Scouts of America, including those at the Pack, Troop, and District level. As a former District Commissioner Kathie took special joy that her sons Jim, Rick, and John each attained the rank of Eagle Scout. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Jim Cook of Lodi; four sons and one daughter, Jim (Melanie) Cook, Jr., Lodi; Richard (Karen) Cook, Stockton; John Cook, Lodi; Rachele (Josh) Bakken, Alameda; Jared Cook, Lodi; her mother in- law, Stella Cook, Stockton; and her seven grandchildren – Candace, Ashley, Alex, Griffin, Mackenzie, Mason, and Jensen. She is also survived by one brother, Robert (Bud) Johnson of West Valley City, Utah; two sisters, Connie Casselman of Wellsville, Utah; and Fran Stephens of San Jose. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ken Johnson. Viewing will be held Thursday, February 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lodi Funeral Home located at 725 S. Fairmont Ave. A Memorial service will be held Saturday February 26, 2005, at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, located at 1510 W. Century Blvd. in Lodi. A private family graveside service will be held Friday at the Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery.
