She was born August 2, 1941 in Sacramento, CA. Due to her mother being confined in a state hospital for several years for treatment of tuberculosis, Chris always wanted to help care for sick people and help those in need. She served as a candy stripe volunteer in her high school years at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, CA. Shortly after graduation from Narbonne High School, Chris entered the convent of the Immaculate Heart in Montecito, CA, near Santa Barbara, to devote herself to a life of spirit and prayer. Chris soon discovered that life in the traditional convent prevented her from allowing her to spread her joy of life and happiness by meeting new people and friends. Like the character played by Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music, after polishing Mother Superior's shoes for the final time for talking during prayer time, it was decided by both Chris and her superiors in the convent, that all would be better served if Chris was allowed to return to the outside world and spread her joy of life. Chris soon entered training to become a registered nurse at the Mercy Hospital College of Nursing in San Diego, CA. Since the Mercy Hospital program was associated with the University of San Diego and administered by Catholic nuns, Chris had the best of both worlds; that of the spirt focused prayer life, along with healing the sick. After working for several years as a hospital charge nurse at Bay Harbor Hospital and as a surgical intensive care nurse in the UCLA Harbor General Medical Center, Chris decided she needed some more excitement and opportunities to meet new people, so she was appointed as a first lieutenant as a registered nurse in the 143rd of Evacuation Hospital, California Army National Guard. Chris soon met and began dating her future husband, John, who was the full-time training officer for the hospital. Chris, with John's help, developed and taught classes for first California National Guard School for medical corpsmen. The school was the first training for medical corpsmen accredited to be taught at reserve unit locations, rather than at the US Army Medical Training Center at Ft. Sam Houston Texas. Chris obtained the rank of Major and was up for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, but was forced to leave the National Guard due to health reasons. Chris was the beloved wife of John D. Jackson of Morada and is survived by her brothers, Pete and Steve, both currently living in Southern California. A Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Michael's Church, 5882 N. Ashley Lane, Stockton, CA on Monday, February 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Committal will take place the following day, Tuesday, March 1 at the San Joaquin County National Cemetery in Gustine, CA. Visitation will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in Chris' name to the St. Michael's Ministry Center Building Fund, 5882 North Ashley Lane, Stockton, CA 95215.
