She was born on September 7, 1918, in Detroit, Michigan. She was married to John Michael Svalya on February 24, 1940, and they raised their family in Ferndale and Southfield, MI. She and her husband were prolific gardeners their entire married lives and were always willing to share their fruits and vegetables from their large garden. Ann enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, camping, traveling, and helping to care for her grandchildren. Ann greatly loved her family and she devoted much of her time sharing in their lives. Ann Svalya's living testament of faith and her witness of love will be lived on by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ann enjoyed being with people and was active in church, teaching Sunday School, singing, and supporting missionaries. She lived her faith by caring for children, the elderly, and the sick. Ann was a member of Brightmoor Christian Church in Southfield, MI for many years. After moving to California, she attended Temple Baptist Church. Ann began living in Lockeford, CA in 2001 with her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Jerry Robinson, following the death of her husband, John, on November 28, 2000. In June 2002 she moved to Austin Gardens in Lodi. Ann is survived by 2 children, Betsy Robinson of Lockeford and Phillip Svalya of Saratoga, CA; 3 brothers, Ray, Richard, and John Peters; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Svalya; her daughter, Susan Anderson' sister, Elizabeth Drobish; and two brothers, Edward Peters and Lawrence Peters. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Austin Gardens, 2150 W. Kettleman Lane, Lodi, with Pastor Perry Kallis of Temple Baptist Church officiating.
