Settle Sept. 24, 1920 - February 25, 2005 Walter R. Settle, 84, of Stockton, CA, died Friday, February 25, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born September 24, 1920 in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY and lived in Stockton for 49 years. He retired in 1984 after serving as Deputy Commander at Defense Depot Tracy, CA. He served in the army during World War II and the Korean War, receiving a Battlefield Commission and retiring at the rank of Major. He was awarded Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Hearts, American Defense Service Medal and American Campaign Medal. As a Mason of the 32nd degree, Settle was a member of Stockton High 12 Club #9, San Joaquin and Morning Star Lodges, Stockton Scottish Rite, Navy League, San Joaquin Chapter of the Retired Officers Assn., previous member of Elkhorn Country Club and an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. Walter was married for 55 years to Evelyn of Haverstraw, NY before her passing in February, 2003. Survivors include daughter, Carol Ann Lockwood of Doylestown, PA; sons, David and William Settle of Stockton; sister, Edythe Shaffer of Homosassa, FL; four grandchildren and two cats. Services: Friday, March 4, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of St. Anne, 1020 W. Lincoln Rd., Stockton, CA 95207.
