Knipper, Sr., 73, died at home on Sunday, February 28, 2005. Richard was born April 23, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Sauga-tuck, Michigan, until he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in California. Following his military service, he entered the oil business. He was a District Marketing Manager for Phillips-66 and then ended his career, after 30 years. at Tosco Oil Refinery in Avon, CA. He was a member of St. Anne's Church, Elks B.P.O. 218, the Knights of Columbus Council 8709 and the Jesters Club. He was the beloved husband and then friend of Janis (Marengo) Knipper for 52 years. Loving father of Karen Vavzincak (David Jr.) and their children, David III and Sara, Richard Knipper Jr. (Cindy) and their children, Michelle and Mia, Denise Earl (Lance) and their children, Brian and Breanna. Great-grandfather of Kyrah and David Vavzincak IV. Also survived by loving sisters Alys Blok of Saugatuck, Michigan and Mary C. Paine of Phoenix, Arizona. He was loved by many, and he will be missed. Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, March 4 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Lodi. Committal at San Joaquin Catholic Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Richard Knipper Sr. to St. Anne's Church, 215 W. Walnut St., Lodi 95240.
