He was killed by a suspected drunken driver while walking along a road. Born in Oakland, Mr. Mitchell moved to Tracy as a young child and graduated from Tracy High School. He attended San Joaquin Delta College, where he played football. He lived in Tracy most of his life, until he moved to Modesto in 2000. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Mitchell served during the Vietnam War from 1972 to 1975. He was a carpenter who enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. He is survived by his son, Brian Mitchell of Modesto; two daughters, Allison Mitchell of Ceres and Lindsay Mitchell of Manteca; and three grandchildren. Friday’s service will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway, in Turlock. Interment will be at a later date in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 W.
