Manuel ‘Shorty’ Neves Jr.
Aug. 6, 1927 — May 11, 2004

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday for former Tracy resident 
Manuel “Shorty” Neves Jr., 76, who died May 11 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center 
in Stockton.
Born in Volta in Merced County, Mr. Neves grew up in Tracy and graduated from 
Tracy High School in 1944. He was a farmer for most of his life. He also worked 
as a truck driver for various agriculture companies in the Central Valley.
Mr. Neves enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his 
family and friends, who will miss him dearly.
He was a member of the Friendship Club of Tracy, the Hitch ‘N’ Bitch Driving 
and Riding Society of Stockton and the Young Farmers of America.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Aretha Neves of Stockton; two sisters, 
Barbara Rebeiro and Rose Affonso, both of Tracy; and five grandchildren, Travis 
and Ryan Collins of Comanche, David Neves of Lockeford, Nicholas Neves of 
Stockton and Melanie Neves of Sacramento.
Three daughters, Monica and Marvel Neves and Candace Collins; and a son, David 
Earl Neves, all preceded him in death. 
Tuesday’s Mass will begin at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 5882 N. 
Ashley Lane, in Stockton. 
Visitation will be observed Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. at Lodi 
Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., in Lodi.
Interment will be in San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 E. Harding Way, in 
Stockton.
