Alice Williams


Alice Virginia Frey Williams, 83, of Chico and formerly of Lodi, died May 19. 
She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Lodi.

Mrs. Williams graduated from Lodi High School, and then attended business 
school in Stockton. She pitched for the Lodi Flames, a semi-pro softball team.

She started piano lessons at age 6 and by age 14 she became an organist at 
Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church.

She moved with her family in 1954 to Chico, where she was as an organist for 30 
years for the Chico Evangelical Free Church until her retirement. She also 
worked for 27 years at California State University, Chico, as a cashier in the 
business affairs office, and then as a veterans clerk helping Korean War 
veterans continue college education.

She enjoyed gardening, ceramics, embroidery, golfing, vacationing in Maui, and 
baking pies for family gatherings. She also enjoyed spending time with her 
children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, K.G. Sheley, Connie Woolston, and Judy Berry; 
brother, Leonard Frey; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Arvile Williams in 2000; 
and sister, Jean Parsons.

Services were held in May.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peg Taylor Center or the Chico 
Evangelical Free Church in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
