Elsie Smith


Elsie S. Smith, 73, of Galt, died July 14 in Lodi. She was born Nov. 1, 1930, 
in Albany.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Emeryville High School. She moved to Hayward in 1964, 
where she lived until 1975 when she moved to Castro Valley. She returned to 
Hayward, and then finally settled in Galt in 2003. She was employed by Pacific 
Bell as a telecommunication engineer for over 42 years until her retirement in 
1985. She also worked for Mervyns in Hayward for 13 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Coats, of Galt; brother, Harry Strelo, 
of Oakland; sister, Sally Benedetti, of Alaska; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Strelo, Jack Strelo, and 
Elwood Strelo.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Douglas Morrison 
Theater in Hayward. Inurnment will be private at Mountain View Cemetery in 
Oakland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas Morrison Theater, 22311 North 
Third St., Hayward, CA 94541.

Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
