Born in Sinai, S.D., Mr. Hanson served in the U.S. Army as a decoder in Hawaii and in combat in the Elysian Islands. As a young boy, he helped support his family by herding and breaking wild horses in the Mount Rushmore area, and then selling the horses at auction. He lived in Tracy 56 years. He enjoyed boxing, playing pool, ping-pong, baseball and watching rodeos on TV. Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maria Hanson; daughter, Melvina Rhoades of Lodi; siblings, Lee Kileany, Sylvia Meloni and Ruth Hudgins, all of Citrus Heights, and Holly White of Fair Oaks; grandchild, Lisa Michelle Burgett of Lodi; and great-grandchild, Braeden Blake Burgett of Lodi. Friday’s graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. at Tracy Cemetery. Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., is handling arrangements. Published on Wednesday, February 01, 2006, in the Tracy Press.
