She was born Ruth O. Tolliver on Sept. 28, 1911, in Omaha, Neb. Mrs. Havlina graduated from grammar school in Mayfield in 1921. Her family moved to Lodi the following year, and she graduated from Lodi High School in 1928. She was one of the founders of the Marc Club at Lodi High. She graduated from College of Commerce (now known as Humphreys College) in Stockton in 1929. She married Walter Smith in 1930, then George Havlina in 1950. She worked for many years as secretary for Don Woods of Woods Cannery in both Lodi and Stockton, then for the California Department of Motor Vehicles until she retired in 1973. She was a longtime member of United Congregational Christian Church of Lodi, a member of the Eta chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority, Rebekah's, and Woodbridge Oaks chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, knitting, reading and watching the Oakland Raiders and "The Price is Right." She is survived by her children, Phyllis Pearrow, of Minnesota, David Smith, of Nevada, and Janis Doerr, of San Jose; sister, Jane Jacinto, of Lodi; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Havlina; brother, Charles Tolliver; and sister, Harriet Rawlings. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Evergreen Chapel of Cherokee Memorial Park, Highway 99 and Harney Lane, Lodi. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home.
