She was born Ruth O. Tolliver on September 28, 1911 in Omaha, NE. The family moved to Mayfield, CA in 1921. Ruth graduated from grammar school in 1924. They moved to Lodi the following year and she graduated from Lodi High School in 1928. She was one of the founders of the Marc Club of Lodi High. She then graduated from College of Commerce (now know as Humphreys College) in 1929. She married Walter Smith in 1930, then George Havlina in 1950. She worked for many years as secretary for Don Woods of Woods Cannery in both Lodi and Stockton, then for California Department of Motor Vehicles until her retirement in 1973. She was a longtime member of the United Congregational Christian Church of Lodi, a member of the Eta Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, she went through the chairs of the Rebeccas and a member of Woodbridge Oaks Order of the Easter Star. Ruth was an avid bridge player and bowler. She enjoyed knitting, reading and watching the Oakland Raiders & The Price is Right. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie (Lindhal) Tolliver; brother, Charles Tolliver; sister, Harriet Rawlings and husband, George Havlina. She is survived by 3 children: Phyllis (Ray) Pearrow of Minnesota, David (Sharon) Smith of Nevada and Janis (Robert) Doerr of San Jose; sister Jane (Frank) Jacinto of Lodi; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited for a visitation on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home 123 N. School St., Lodi, CA from 1-5 p.m. and to a funeral service on Monday, March 14, 2005 in the Evergreen Chapel of Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & Harney Ln., Lodi, CA at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Northern California Unit, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
