He was born April 10, 1919, in Hilla, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Klein moved to the U.S. in 1922. He attended school in Ashley, N.D. He later worked for a creamery, where he learned the art of butter making. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, where he served as a tail-gunner in the 550th Bomb Squadron, 385th Bomb Group. He was honorably discharged as a staff sargeant in 1945. Harold Klein Prior to his military service, he was involved with the CCC. He was employed as a machinist with the American Electric Heater Company for 20 years until his retirement. He moved to Lodi in 1969, where he became a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lodi Post No. 1968, and served as chaplain for many years. He was also a member of the Lodi Writers Association. He was an avid inventor and enjoyed working with gold, silver and other precious metals. He also enjoyed coin collecting. He is survived by his close friends, Monet Carosella and Frank and Lorraine Swanson, all of Lodi. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lodi Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Fischer officiating. Military honors will follow. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home. Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
