Born in Modesto, Mr. Lawton lived in Ripon before making Manteca his home for 54 years. He was an employee of Laura Scudder’s in Tracy 25 years, and after working 10 years for Salida Hulling Association in Salida, he retired in 2000 as a general manager. He owned and operated his own almond orchard and raised cattle in Manteca. He attended Immanuel Christian Reform Church in Ripon. He loved watching football, especially the Oakland Raiders. During his high school and college years, Mr. Lawton played football and basketball. When his children were young, he coached little league and was a part of the East Union Athletic Boosters during his children’s high school years. He liked to golf and play cards, especially bridge. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Mr. Lawton is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jean Marie Lawton of Manteca; children, Michael Lawton, and his wife, Dena, of Auburn, Diane Quaresma, and her husband, Daryll, of Ripon, Debra Presses, and her husband, Greg, of Salida, and Steven Lawton, and his wife, LaDawna, of Lemoore; mother, Dorothy Edgar of Manteca; siblings, James Lawton of North Highlands and Betty Knapp of Manteca; and grandchildren, Kristen, Brittany and Justin Lawton, Darian and Devanee Quaresma, Vince, Janae and McKayle Presses, and Kaitlen, Brian and Haden Lawton. He was preceded in death by his father, Hugo Lawton in 1957, and grandchild, Branden Lawton in 1991. Thursday’s services will begin at 10 a.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home, 290 N. Union Road, in Manteca. Visitation will be observed from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery, 3661 E. French Camp Road, in Manteca.
