He was born in Verdi, Nevada on Sept. 7, 1935 to Emmett and Louise Leonard. He attended Reno High School where he played football, baseball, and was a member of the downhill ski racing team. After serving two years in the US Navy, he graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Meader on April 14, 1957. They moved to Stockton, CA in 1973 where he worked 9 years as a sales engineer for Holt Bros. Engine Power Co. and traveled all over the world. He later worked in sales for Tesco Controls in Sacramento for 13 years. While there, he originated the idea of holding an annual company golf tournament, which he throughly enjoyed coordinating each year until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, the "Wally Leonard Golf Tournament" has continued to be an anual event for the company. He especially loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and entertaining for friends and family, and his weekly "coffee club'. An avid fan of art and history, along with his wife, he was an enthusiastic docent, volunteer and a member of the executive board of Haggin Museum in Stockton. In 2003, he and his wife took the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and dear friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed. We will always remember him for his generous heart, wonderful smile, and strong spirit. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen Leonard of Lodi; two daughters, Diane and Joanne Leonard of Sacramento; and one sister Virginia Holt of Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Danny. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU nurses, doctors and staff at Lodi Memorial Hospital for their loving care.
