Born in Las Cruces, N.M., Mr. Lopez lived in San Jose until moving to Tracy last year. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He then worked 27 years as a brake mechanic for Sears in San Jose and Cupertino. Following his retirement in 1991, he performed maintenance at Eden Palm Apartments for seven years. Mr. Lopez enjoyed gardening, being a handyman around home and helping his neighbors repair their cars. He loved taking care of his grandchildren and spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen Lopez of Tracy; daughter Melinda Carnero and her husband, David, of Soledad; sons John Lopez, and his wife, Rosemary, of Antioch, Richard Lopez, and his wife, Beatrice, of Los Banos, Frank Lopez, and Vera Lopez, both of Tracy; mother Elvira Lopez of Las Cruces, N.M.; brothers Joe Lopez, and his wife, Carmen, of Los Angeles, Walter Lopez, and his wife, Enedina, Jose Lopez, and his wife, Cruz, Lala Aragon, and her husband, Joe, and Jessie Lopez, and his wife, Lillian, all of Las Cruces; sisters Rebecca Martinez, and Nellie Wells, and her husband, Bob, all of Las Cruces; grandchildren Christina Lopez of Tracy, Pfc. Christopher Lopez based in Tucson, Ariz., Jonathan, Daniel and Julieanne Lopez, all of Antioch, Pfc. Elizabeth Lopez, based in Ala., Joesph, Michael, Jason and Kate Lopez, all of Los Banos, Cpl. Robert Gonzales, and his wife, Alicia, based in El Paso, Texas, and Steven Carnero and DJ Carnero, both of Soledad; and three great- grandchildren. Tuesday’s services will begin 7 p.m. at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 W. McCabe Road, in Gustine. Visitation will be observed from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hotchkiss. Published on Saturday, October 1, 2005, in the Tracy Press.
