He was born on January 2, 1919 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. John moved out to California with his parents and two sisters in the 30's. He married his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Lena, on December 20, 1941. Lena preceded John in death on December 30, 2002. He was blessed with 6 children, Patricia Nord, Diana Vestal, Steven Lampman, Brian Lampman and twins Sheila Davis and Sheri Honegger. John served in the United States Army in World War II from 1944 - 1946. He was honorably discharged as a Marine Engineer Technical Sergeant Grade 4. He served in the South Pacific as a member of the 377th Harbor Craft. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 442, for 62 years where he practiced his trade as a plumber for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He provided humanitarian services supporting his wife, Lena, in her ministry as a volunteer for the Haven of Peace women's shelter. He and Lena moved to Auburn in 2002 to be closer to their family and his children, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. John was devoted to his family and always willing to give selflessly of his time to help others. He was a gifted storyteller and was able to draw a captive audience with his delightful humor. We are comforted by knowing that John accepted the Lord in the final years of his life and will spend eternity in Heaven with his loving wife, Lena. Services will be held at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, California located at 1331 Lincoln Way on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m., with a viewing to be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held immediately following the service at New Auburn Cemetery located 1040 Collins Drive in Auburn with a reception following the graveside service.
