He was born in Chicago, IL on December 4, 1910. His parents immigrated from Denmark and he was raised on a farm in the state of Washington. He attended Washington State University, where he received his B.A. degree and the University of Michigan where he received his M.A. degree in Library Science. He moved to Stockton in 1946 and was the head librarian at College of he Pacific as well as Stockton College and Delta College until his retirement in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy in W.W. II as a Naval Instructor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen in 2004. he is survived by sons, Richard Laursen of Boston, MA and Erik Laursen of Roseburg, OR and daughter, Susanne Daley of Stockton; as well as 7 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at O'Connor Woods, 3400 Wagner Heights in Stockton. There is no visitation per his request.
