He was born on January 28, 1918 in Freidheim, Missouri, the son of Joseph Lorenz and Frieda Bachmann Lorenz. He grew up in Perryville, Missouri and attended Perryville High School, graduating in 1937. He joined the Navy on July 11, 1938 and served tours of duty on numerous ships during WWII and Korea as Chief Warrant Officer, he later served as a Navy recruiter. Edgar was united in marriage to Velva May Davis on September 20, 1941. He retired from the Navy on August 4, 1958 as Chief Warrant Officer. From 1958 until his second retirement in December 31, 1973, he and his family lived in Napa, California while he was employed as Plant Lead Supervisor at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo California. When he retired he was the Plant Lead Supervisor. After his retirement, the couple moved to Calaveras County and then Tuolumne County, where he worked as a Realtor in Sonora, California. They moved to Stockton, California in 1980 where they have resided until the present time. Edgar enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, golfing and the time shared with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he and Velva never missed a family event. Edgar was actively involved in his church all of his life. He served as an Elder at St. John's Lutheran Church in Napa, CA. He was also an Elder, a member of the Social Ministry and a member in the choir at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Stockton. Edgar served as an Ombudsman in Stockton from 1994 through 2000. He was a life member of the Military Retired Officers Association and in good standing of the San Joaquin Valley branch. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Sons of Retirement and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Edgar was proceeded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frieda Lorenz, his sister, Joan Rudolfi and his brothers, Web and Omar Lorenz. He is survived by Velva, his beloved wife of 63 years; his loving family that include his daughters, Josette Stanley of Brighton, Colorado, Sandra Hallock and her husband Keith of Santa Rosa, California, Suzanne Lorenz and her husband Sam Beasley of Stockton, California and his son, David Lorenz and his wife Nancy of Sebastopol, California. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Michael Stanley and his partner, Romain Neugebauer, Donna Gutierrez and her husband David, Denise Salamanca and her husband Kelly, Kim Aikawa and her husband Charles, Karen Smidt and her husband Dan, Adrian, Mariana and Andrew Alvarez and Amelia Lorenz, as well by his eight great-grandchildren, Nicole, Lauren, Meghan, Rachel, Justine, Abigail, Derek and Bridget. His sister, Irma Hoffstetter and his brother, Roy Lorenz, both of Perryville, Missouri, survive him as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family and Friends are invited to a memorial service on April 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 4910 Claremont Avenue at March Lane, Stockton, California. There will be a private committal. Inurned at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to St. Andrews Lutheran Church or to the American Heart Association.
