James Mills
James Donald "Don" Mills, 78, of Lockeford, died Nov. 12 in Lodi. He was born 
Oct. 16, 1927, in Mayfield, Ky.

Mr. Mills served in the U.S. Army from 1943-47. He married Rachel Harrison in 
1949 and they moved to Lodi in 1962. He was employed in newspaper distribution 
at the Lodi News-Sentinel for 23 years, and also at the San Francisco 
Chronicle. 

He was a foreman for Heilite Trailers of Lodi from 1962 to 1972. He was also 
self-employed in the used car business. He was a member of the First United 
Methodist church.





James Mills
He enjoyed tinkering with old cars, reading newspapers, and especially spending 
time with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Shaw, of Lodi, Niki Linn, of Reno, and 
Lisa Moiso, of Santa Barbara; sister, Charlene Frizzell, of Kentucky; six 
grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Mills in 2002; son, David Mills; 
and two brothers and one sister.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist 
Church, corner of Church and Oak, with the Rev. Dr. Alan Kimber officiating. 
Committal will be private at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. There will be no 
visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation, 999 S. 
Fairmont Ave., Suite 105, Lodi, CA 95240.
