Mitchell Dec. 6, 1932 — Dec. 14, 2005 A memorial service will be Jan. 4 for 14-year Tracy resident Dr. Jack B. Mitchell, 73, who died Wednesday at his home. Dr. Mitchell loved sailing and traveling throughout California and North America. He enjoyed woodworking and attended school in San Francisco and Monterey. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany for two years. After his discharge, he attended University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Ph.D. He worked at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory 32 years before retiring in 1993. Dr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ruth Mitchell, of Tracy; daughter, Anne Mitchell of Sacramento; five stepchildren; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 4 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1635 Chester Ave., followed by a reception.
