He was born November 23, 1922 in Stockton, CA to John A . and Maude MacDonald. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Marilyn (Berlin) MacDonald and his four sons: Wayne MacDonald of Stockton (wife Donna, son Gary and daughter Chrissie), Neal MacDonald of Stockton (wife Sandi, son Matthew and daughter Elisabeth), Dean MacDonald of Galt (wife Julie, daughter Katie) and Scott MacDonald of Elk Grove (sons Adam and Alan and daughters Amber and Alyssa) and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Rev. John MacDonald of Nevada City and sister Marilyn Lovvorn of Santa Cruz. He is preceded in death by sister Jean Wright and daughter-in-law Lynnette MacDonald. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1940. He attended Stockton College and went to work for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and graduated from aerial gunnery school in 1944. He was then assigned to the 15th Air Force, second bomb group, 20th bomb squadron stationed in Italy as a waist gunner and photographer on a B-17. He flew fifty missions over Germany and German occuied territory. He was awarded the air medal with two oak leaf clusters, a purple heart, and the European-African- Middle East service medal with four bronze stars. He attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was discharged in October of 1945. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Marilyn Berlin on March 25, 1945 in the First Baptist Church, in Stockton, in the same church his parents had married in 1918. He returned to work at P.T.&T. after his discharge and retired in 1981 as a plant engineer. He had been a member of Temple Baptist Church in Lodi over the past fifty years. He considered his service to his Lord and saviour and his family as his highest calling in life. It is the wish of Gordon and his family that any donations be made to Temple Baptist Chruch 801 S.
