Billie Mays 
Billie Jean Niemela Mays, 83, of Galt, died Aug. 7 in a Sacramento hospital. 
She was born Billie Jean Breedlove on March 20, 1922, in Texas.

Mrs. Mays worked as a medical transcriber for various hospitals for many years 
until her retirement in 1993. 

She is survived by her husband, Loren Mays, of Galt; daughter, Linda Redmon, of 
Anchorage, Alaska; son, Ernest Niemela, of Lynden, Wash; step-sons, Lawrence 
Mays, of Boston, Ma., Mitchell Mays, of Truckee, and Wesley Mays, of Galt; step-
daughter, Judy Berigtold, of Lodi; seven grandchildren and two great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vener Niemela; and sons, V. 
Christen and John Niemela.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Lodi Funeral Home. A 
private interment will follow at Presidio National Cemetery.

Lodi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
