He was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Santa Maria. Mr. Mello lived in Lodi for 18 years and then in Ripon for 21 years. He worked as a truck driver for 30 years, and was a member of Union Local No. 139. He was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed racing, working on cars and hot rods. He also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, and visiting the beach; especially Pismo and Santa Maria. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joanne Mello, of Ripon; son, Donnie Lee Mello, of Ripon; sisters, Mary Ann Garcia, of Atwater, Jeanne Cunha and Joyce Simoni, both of Lodi, and Margie Lopes, of Oakdale; and one granddaughter. A mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will be held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 19401 E. Highway 120, Ripon, CA 95366. Deegan Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
