Meyer Nov. 20, 1917 - Mar. 13, 2005 Carolyn was born on November 20, 1917 in Moorcroft, Wyoming to Atsie Elizabeth Bailey Holloway and Metellus Reed Holloway. Her mother, a brother, John, her father and her paternal grandmother died during the years of the influenza epidemics. She had two siblings, Richard Reed Holloway and Sally Holloway Kennedy, who are deceased. Following the loss of her parents, Carolyn was raised by her uncle and aunt, F.D. Bailey and Maude Marsh Bailey, in Pasadena and Paradise, California. Carolyn was raised with the Bailey's daughter, Zoe, as a sister. Carolyn married Henry Norton (Bud) Meyer in Paradise in 1936, and they were married for 52 years until his death in 1988. They began their married life on an apple ranch in Paradise, a gift from Bud's father, Clarence E. Meyer. Carolyn and Bud also owned Meyer Furniture Company in Chico and Carolyn ran the furniture store and the apple business while Bud was serving in World War II. Carolyn and Bud lived part time in Stockton from 1952 to 1965, spending weekends and holidays at the ranch. Children and young people lived with Bud and Carolyn throughout their marriage. Her niece and nephew from Los Angeles lived with them in the summers in Paradise; other students lived with them to attend local schools, and colleges in Stockton, often for three or four years. These included Woody Funderburk, Kevin Funderburk, Tina Campora, Nancy Campora, Crystal Beaseley, Kaoru Okazaki, and Hisako Ohmoto. She also hosted summer exchange programs by housing young people from France, Japan and China. For over thirty years she celebrated holidays with her dear friends, Tom, Dotte, Tyler, and Lindley Dille of Folsom, and Heidi and Jenn Herrera of Davis. Carolyn's eldest daughter, Carol Diane Meyer, preceded her in death in 1995. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Melinda Meyer Niemi (John), a grandson, Reed Robert Niemi (Sheli Ayers), and granddaughters Kaitlyn Atsie Niemi and Anu Niemi Ayers, all of Stockton. Carolyn is survived by her half brother, Royal Metellus Holloway (Tina) of Wyoming, her cousins, Zoe Funderburk and Kevin Funderburk of Sacramento, and Woodley Funderburk of Texas. Her nieces and nephews are Chet Sherdahl, Sally Sherdahl Moker (Richard), Jon Kennedy (Midge), and Deb Kennedy, all of Orange County. Carolyn worked for Stockton College and California Tomato Growers. She began her real estate career with Eichelberger- Hobin and remained as it evolved into The Hobin Company and finally the Grupe Company. Carolyn was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church, the U.U. Alliance, and Habitat for Humanity. She was a supporter of many organizations that aided animals. A Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 2737 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA.
