Born in Texas, Mrs. Nightingale was a skilled microbiologist. She was a driving scientific force behind the development of the world-renowned botrytized wines at Cresta Blanca Winery in Livermore, and later at the Beringer Winery in St. Helena. The wine at Beringer still bears the name “Nightingale” in honor of the work done by both Mr. and Mrs. Nightingale. She was also a longtime member and past matron of the Summit Chapter No. 138, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Nightingale is survived by her sons, Dan, and his wife, Seana, of Palm Desert, and Barry, and his wife, Debbie, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Sharon Thornton of Red Bluff; great-granddaughters, Sharissa and Cheyenne, both of Red Buff; sister, Nellie Cook of Kauai, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron S. Nightingale. Friday’s services will begin at 11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 990 Vintage, in St. Helena.
