Matthew Cullen Wentland 
Sept. 9, 1961 - August 16, 2004



Matthew Cullen Wentland, 42, passed away on August 16, 2004, at Sonora 
Community Hospital in Sonora, CA. Matthew was born September 9, 1961, in 
Seattle, Washington. He was a resident of Vallecito for the past year. He was a 
Heavy Equipment Operator with the Operating Engineers Union Local #3, a member 
of the N.R.A., C.R.P.A., and also The Gem and Mineral Society of Alameda. Matt 
will be remembered as a fun loving and free spirited individual who enjoyed 
fishing, the outdoors, playing his guitar and socializing with relatives and 
friends. He was well liked by many, with a quick wit and funny disposition. 
Matt would become the life of the party in any social setting. His ultimate 
source of enjoyment came from riding the open roads on his motorcycle and 
living in his adoptive home in the Murphys area. He will be immensely missed by 
his family and the many who came to know him.
Matt is survived by his mother, Judie Cain-Papais, of Murphys; father, Ervin C. 
Wentland, of Akron, OH; grandfather, Edwin L. Whitesell, of Mokelumne Hill, CA; 
step-father, Lou A. Papais, of Murphys; brother, Stan Wentland, of Sacramento; 
sister, Stacie Dominick, of Murphys; nephew, Ryan D. Rosario, of Angels Camp; 
niece, Jessica L. Dominick, of Murphys.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at Arbuckles Restaurant at Forest 
Meadows Golf Course, Murphys, on September 11, 2004 at 3:00 p.m.

95370.
