Garland E. Johnson

Garland E. Johnson, 74, of Valley Springs died in his home on August 21, 2004 
surrounded by his loving family. 
He married Lois (Martin) of Fresno, February 3, 1951. He enjoyed a career in 
education, teaching Biology at Fresno High School and at Hoover High School 
from its opening until 1977. He became a Learning Director for Fresno Unified 
School District, and finished his career as Science Coordinator for F.U.S.D. 
until retiring in 1991. He was awarded many awards and honors in his work. Lois 
and Garland moved to Valley Springs in 1996 and immediately became active in 
community organizations there.
Garland is survived by his loving wife, Lois, and their children: Steve Johnson 
and Lynda Roti of Oakland, Peter Johnson and wife Linda of Hat Creek, Susan 
Alford of San Andreas, Robin Knutson and husband Randy of Lodi, Eric Johnson of 
San Francisco and four grandchildren, Annika, Jonas, Cole and Sam.
A Service celebrating the life of Garland will be held Friday, September 10, at 
11:00 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 1055 S. Lower 
Sacramento Road in Lodi.
Memorials may be given to the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust 
in Fresno, The Valley Springs Friends of the Library fund, St. John's Building 
and Landscaping fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
