Bentler July 28, 1920 - September 2, 2004 William R. (Bill) Bentler, 84, of Stockton, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2004 in a local hospital. Born on July 28, 1920 in Hibbing, MN. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1939 until retirement in 1968 reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Bill then was employed for 20 years as Athletic Business Manager at the University of the Pacific. Bill was a member of the Stockton Covenant Church, a 50 year member and past master of San Joaquin Lodge #19 F & AM, where he received the Hiram Award, a 33 degree mason in the Stockton Scottish Rite Bodies, past patron of Stockton Chapter #373 OES, Delta Queen Court of Amaranth, Stockton High 12 Club, Ben Ali Temple, San Joaquin Shrine Club and current president of the Sojourners Club. Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Alberta Bentler and Dorothy Bentler, and a granddaughter, Kathy Kastanos. He is survived by his daughter, Edythe Kastanos of Hayward. Step-father of Denise Smith, of MO. Grandfather of Robert (Christine) Kastanos, Cynthia (David) Schultz and Kimberley (Allan) Fraser. Great-grandfather of 9. Brother of James Bentler and Maxine Bentler, both of WA. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dear companion of Jane Davis, of Stockton. Friends are invited to attend funeral services, Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Stockton Covenant Church, 1720 Oxford Way, Stockton. Rev. Michael White and San Joaquin Lodge officiating. Visitation hours Tuesday, 1:00- 8:00 p.m. in the Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way at Beckman Rd., Lodi. Max Carroll at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorial Contributions to Stockton Covenant Church or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95815 are preferred.
