Barbara Ruth Shields 

July 31, 1929 - September 13, 2004



  Barbara Ruth Shields, 75, of Stockton passed away on Monday, September 13, 
2004. She was born July 31, 1929, in Phoenix, AZ to Alva Francis Hazelbaker and 
Flaudia Elizabeth Boren Hazelbaker.
Her family moved to Stockton when she was a young girl. She attended Jefferson 
Grammar School and graduated from Stockton High School in 1947. She was a 
homemaker and mother, and an avid reader of mystery novels. She was also a very 
talented interior decorator. She was married for forty five years to husband 
Wayne Shields who preceded her in death in January 2003. 
She is survived by daughters, Claudia and husband Mike Young, Ruth and husband 
Gene Hancock of Lockeford, Diane and husband Bill Braden of Manteca; son, Jack 
Shields of Lodi; and brother, Darrell and wife Audrey Hazelbaker of Lodi; 
dearest grandmother of 11 grandchildren, Jeff Young, Leslie Sheets, Ashley 
Young, Chris, Kim, and Andrew Hancock, Tammie Williams, Richie Braden, Ken, 
Jennifer and Kevin Shields, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in 
death by a son, Martin Shields, and a brother, Harold Hazelbaker. 
Funeral Services are Friday, September 17, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at the Wallace-
Martin Funeral Home, 520 N. Sutter St., Stockton, CA. Visitation hours are 
Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. Committal: Rural Cemetery.
