Dowden Mar. 31, 1917 - Sept. 20, 2004 Leland A. Dowden, 87, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2004 in Stockton. He was born on March 31, 1917 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Bombardier during World War II from April 1943 - September 1945 as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a Prisoner of War for 14 months in Germany, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Dowden moved to Stockton, CA, in 1953, and was self-employed as a certified public accountant for 30 years. He enjoyed singing in the church choir, music, and traveling on cruise ships. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Magdalena Fieguth Dowden on June 26, 1993. He is survived by 2 sons, Douglas Dowden and wife Joan of Stockton and Leland A. Dowden II and wife Patty of Santa Clara; grandchildren, Allison Cooper, Alan Dowden, and Carmen Penney; and a great-grandson, Jacob Nelson Cooper. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at the Buchheim Family-Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, 1703 Spring St., Paso Robles, CA, 93446, Rev. Enrique Ott of the Mennonite Church officiating. Commmital will be held at Willow Creek Mennonite Cemetery in Paso Robles. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.
