Swift July 19, 1917 - September 21, 2004 Mrs. Katharine Daniel Swift of Lodi passed away Tuesday September 21, 2004 at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family. It is fitting that she would leave this world on the last day of summer, her favorite season. Affectionately known by her family as Ganno, Katie was born July 19, 1917, in Berkeley, California to J. Franklin and Menetta Daniel. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a Bachelor's Degree in History. Katie was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and the American Association of University Women. She was a volunteer for the Lodi Memorial Hospital Emperor Auxiliary for many years and was also instrumental in founding the Friends of the Library of Lodi. Her life-long love of world travel began at the age of six when she spent an entire year traveling around the world with her family. During that trip, she attended school in France followed by additional schooling in Germany. Since then, she has traveled to Europe many times as well as the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In her later years, she loved traveling to Mexico with her family. Katie loved her family, friends, home, music, reading, gardening and playing bridge. She will be best remembered as a wonderful person who touched everyone who met her. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by two daughters, Sally Simpson and husband, Chuck, of Lodi, Susan Franecke and husband, Edmund, of Bend, OR; one sister, Elizabeth O'Donnell of Davis; three grand-children, Stephen Michael Simpson and wife Marne of Lodi; Jeffrey David Simpson of Lodi; Rebecca Susan Ramsay of Lebanon, OR; four great grandchildren, Channing and Camryn Simpson of Lodi; Emily Comer and Madison Ramsay of Lebanon, OR; and loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore John Swift, Jr. in 1973, and two brothers, John Franklin Daniel III and David Martin Daniel. A private Memorial Service will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California. Arrangements are by the Lodi Funeral Home.
