Estela Alvarez
Jan. 13, 1927 — Sept. 18, 2004

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday for longtime Tracy 
resident Estela Alvarez, 77, who died at her home Saturday.
Born in Miami, Ariz., Miss Alvarez was retired as a farm laborer. She loved to 
cook, knit, play bingo and spend time with her family. Her family will miss her 
storytelling and sense of humor.
Ms. Alvarez is survived by her children, Gilbert Anguiano of Mexico, Alma 
Martinez and Angel Lara, both of Tracy, Joe Saldana of Delhi, and Cipriano 
Saldana and Geneva Munoz, both of Stockton; seven siblings, Ofelia Calderon and 
Lupe Alvarez, both of Mexico, Victoria Alvarez, Armida Alvarez, Conchita 
Alvarez, Minerva Alvarez and Liborio Alvarez, all of Los Angeles; 31 
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Martinez Jr.
Thursday’s Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 
W. Eaton Ave. 
Visitation will be observed from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fry Memorial Chapel, 
550 S. Central Ave., where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that same day. 
Interment will take place at Tracy Cemetery.
