Grant Oct. 18, 1956 - Sept. 16, 2004 Shannon M.Grant, nee Sheri M. LeFever, 47, was born October 18, 1956, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the home of a friend. She lived many places over the years then called Lodi and Stockton her home for the last seventeen years. She had a remarkable story of perseverance in the face of enormous obstacles. Seventeen years ago she was left paralyzed by a stroke. Her doctors said she would never walk or talk again. Shannon proved them wrong. She relearned how to walk, talk, tie her shoes, and many other basic skills we all take for granted. She went back to college, earning her A.A. degree from Delta College. Shannon graduated with "Highest Honors" and a 4.0 GPA. She was awarded many Certificates as well - awards for recognition with Disabled Student Services, Outstanding Academic Achievement, Law Enforcement Certificate as well as Human Services Substance Abuse Specialist and Human Service Worker. She was also awarded a full scholarship to U.O.P. Up until two years ago she worked at Delta College as a Teaching Assistant for disabled students in the computer lab. She wanted to be an example to others - both of what to do and what not to do. She accomplished this, along with 17 years of sobriety with help from the friends of Bill W. She is survived by her father and step mother, Don and Donna LeFever; daughters, Kiesha, Tasha, Shauna; her son, Shance and sister Terri. She leaves behind seven beautiful grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Shannon's family would like to thank Hospice of San Joaquin County for their caring and support of Shannon during this most difficult time. Special thanks to Peggy and Karen. It takes quite a village to care for the ill. In our tribe were Joy, Hope, Josie, Paris, Norma, Marilyn, Christina, Willie and others whose names escape me. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday the 25th of September 2004, from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Alano Club of Stockton, 1812 Mt. Diablo Ave., Stockton, CA. The family would appreciate donations to Hospice of San Joaquin in Shannon's name, so the circle of caring can continue.
