Ebenhack, 71, affectionately known as 'Pete' to everyone who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully, and surrounded by his families love on Monday, September 27, 2004, in St. Josephs hospital in Stockton, after bravely battling a brief illness. Pete was born in Westwood, CA in 1933 and moved to Red Bluff in his younger years. He graduated from Red Bluff High School in 1951 and immediately after graduating enlisted in the Air Force where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Pete went on to Mortuary College in San Francisco after his Air Force service and in 1961 settled in Stockton with his wife and their two small children. He enjoyed his lifelong work as a funeral director and worked at DeYoung Memorial Chapel for more than 25 years until his retirement. He worked for a short during during his retirement at his sons company, SECO Plumbing in Lodi, as shop manager. Pete was active in many lodges over the years including being a Past Master of Channel Lodge #757 of Stockton (1972), a member of San Joaquin Lodge #19, a member of Vesper Lodge #84 of Red Bluff, and a member of Stockton High Twelve Club No. 9. A cancer survivor himself, Pete enjoyed being a volunteer for the American Cancer Society where he drove cancer patients to and from their treatments when they needed assistance. He was an avid hunter (in his own mind) and always looked forward to his annual hunting trips with his son Greg, and his lifelong friends from Red Bluff. He enjoyed the many trips taken with his wife Jean in their 5th wheel trailer - he fondly remembered Alaska and South Dakota as two of his favorite destinations. His practical jokes, quick smile, generous spirit and love for family and friends will be greatly missed by us all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob & Pauline Ebenhack of Red Bluff; siblings, Allen Ebenhack and Paula Burnham of Red Bluff, and George Ebenhack of Woodland. He is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his loving bride of 51 years, Jean; their children Greg Ebenhack (Julie) of Stockton, and Susan McCormac (Tim) of Stockton; grandchildren, Elissa Ebenhack of Arcata, Ryan McCormac, Mandi McCormac and Ryan Neal (Shekera) of Stockton, and Tim McCormac Jr., of Pleasanton; great grandchildren, Zackary McCormac and Maliyah Neal, several loving nieces and nephews, and grand dogs Hunter and Jackson. Friends and family are invited to join the family as they celebrate his life in a Memorial Service on October 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr, Stockton, CA. No visitation. Private committal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA (209)941-2676, or the charity of your choice.
