James Meryl Garrett 
August 30, 1926 - July 5, 2004



James Meryl Garrett, 77, died on Monday, July 5, 2004, following a prolonged 
recuperation from open heart surgery. Born in Tucson, Arizona, Mr. Garrett 
graduated from the University of California in Berkeley and Hastings College of 
Law, where he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He moved to Stockton with his 
family in 1964 to practice law with Richard Daley and John Patridge.
He was active in the Bar Association of San Joaquin County and the Eden Rat 
Pack, and he served as a volunteer in the St. Joseph's Medical Center Auxiliary.
Jim enjoyed travel and had visited 63 countries assembling photograph albums of 
many trips. For 39 years he maintained a beautiful garden at his home which was 
the setting for several charitable events. His fine sense of humor enlivened 
many occasions with
family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, JoAnne; their sons, Jeffrey Garrett of 
Carmichael and Jim Garrett of Nicaragua; their daughters, Jan Garrett of 
Stockton and Julie Garrett of Lodi; grandchildren, James, Aaron, Todd, Trevor, 
Hunter, Kristen, Katherine, Claire and Devon and a brother, Howard Garrett of 
Granville, Ohio.
Friends are invited to wish Jim a Bon Voyage at a memorial, Monday, July 12, 
2004 at 5:00 in the Garrett Garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested acknowledging his love of reading 
with a contribution to the Delta Kappa Gamma
