Hartman; her four children, Diane Anderson and husband Rich of Eagle, ID, Claudia Rose and husband Brian of Twain Harte, CA, Donald Craig Hartman and wife Alison of Incline Village, NV, Margaret Glaser and Don Eason of Melba of ID, and her sister, Ruth Lawson and husband, Don of Mt. View, CA. Willis Hartman was born November 11, 1922 to Dr. Tolbert and Ella Watson in Albany, MN. Willis Hartman died of a sudden illness Tuesday, July 6, 2004. At the age of two, she and her family moved to Sunnyvale, CA where Willis and her 3 sisters, Beatrice, Shirley, and Ruth were raised the daughters of a "Country Doctor." Maybe it was as the daughter of a revered caregiver that Willis adopted so many of the wonderful and enduring characteristics that will long live in the hearts, minds and actions of her family. Willis graduated from Stanford University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. An avid sports fan, she rarely missed a Stanford game of any kind and could be relied on to give an accurate and informed dissertation on anything from the NFL Draft to the NBA Playoffs to the PGA Tournaments. Willis also enjoyed camping and stayed fit into her years playing golf with husband Don and close friends. Willis will be remembered and recounted by her four loving children; 8 adoring grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren as a bright, kind and sincerely caring lady. Although extremely intelligent and quick witted, Willis possessed a calmness and graciousness that made all those around her feel welcomed, loved, and most of all important. Despite her quiet demeanor, Willis was strong willed and opinionated, but never intrusive upon those around her. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother, and throughout the years never wearied of her role as a caregiver and matriarch of the entire Hartman family. Willis never wavered in her interest of the lives of those around her and was always there with a kind word or understanding smile. She set an example to her family of benevolence, goodwill and self confidence. Never stingy with smiles or laughter, Willis remained active and involved in the lives of all of her family and friends until her final moments. Willis Hartman, affectionately known as "Willie", will leave behind a legacy of laughter and grace, a genuine concern for the well-being of others and an aura of understanding sincerity. As the world was a better place just knowing that Willis Mary Hartman existed, it will be an emptier place now that she has passed. And just as her family and friends meant the world to Willis... Willis meant the world to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. A Gathering for family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m., July 11, 2004 at the Diggins Club House, 216 Tom Bell Rd., Murphys, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
