Fleming June 17, 1910 - October 7, 2004 William J. Fleming, 94, passed away October 7, 2004 in Stockton. He was born June 17, 1910, in Stockton and attended Elmwood School in San Joaquin County and then Fair Oaks grammar school in Stockton when family moved to E. Market St. Mr. Fleming attended Stockton High and C.O.P. (University of the Pacific now) from 1929 to 1933 where he graduated in engineering. He married Frances Smith in April 1935 in the First Christian Church of Stockton where the pastor was the bride's father, Benjamin Smith. Mr. Fleming began his career with Henry Ohm and Leland Rabb in 1936. At the beginning of WWII he began work for the Pollock Shipyard, and after the war he worked for Ohm and Eckland until the company dissolved, at which time he was hired by the Port of Stockton and was employed there from 1963 to 1975 when he retired. While working for Pollock Shipyard he was a member of one of the company's softball teams. He also belonged to the Engineers Club and SIRS. He is survived by wife of 69 years, Frances Fleming of Stockton; children Joan Fleming, John Fleming and wife Molly, and Robert Fleming all of Stockton; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
