(Ret.) USA March 13, 1921 - July 9, 2004 Anthony Jerry Maris, Col. (Ret.) USA, 83, passed away peacefully following a valiant battle with lymphoma on Friday, July 9, 2004 at home in Sacramento, CA. Born in Lodi, CA on March 13, 1921, Anthony graduated from CSU, Sacramento with an M.A. in English. He was a teacher and chairman of the English Department at Hiram Johnson Sr. High School for 24 years. He served in WWII as a bombardier with the 8th Air Force in Rack-heath, England. He married Elpis Alice Apostolos (deceased 2002). They celebrated 55 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Gerald, Anthony, Jr. (Jennifer), his daughter, Alicia Maris; grandson, Kevin Maris and granddaughter, Traci Maris. Also survived by his sister Effie Jones; brother, Spiro Maris (Marguerita); nieces, Christine Davis, Michele Frazier; nephews, Wesley Jones and Walter Jones and loving friend, Esther Lilakos. Friends are welcome for visitation, Wednesday, July 14, 2004 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Trisagion, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, Riverside Blvd. and Second Avenue, Sacramento, CA and are also invited to attend the Funeral Service, 10:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 9165 Peets Street, Elk Grove, CA, officiated by Father D. Pappademos. Interment, East Lawn Cemetery, followed by a funeral meal at Church of the Annunciation, 3022 F St., Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, 9165 Peets Street, Elk Grove, CA 95758. George L.
